Volunteer
Any organization is only as good as its, Board of Directors,
staff, members/clients and VOLUNTEERS. We understand that you may need us as
much as we need you. It is a wonderful feeling to give back to your community.
We have several different types of opportunities to volunteer at the Center.
-
Have you ever wished that you could facilitate a
discussion group on your experiences, views of life and daily news, and your
favorite books? This is your chance. We always need interesting people to
lead discussion groups.
-
The Adult Day Care/Alzheimer’s Program needs volunteers
who are loving and non-judgmental to work with the staff in daily
activities.
-
Are you musical, skilled in dance, yoga, crafts? We need
volunteers to teach classes.
-
There are periodic mailings and we need help getting them
out.
-
We serve a lunchtime meal and need help in the kitchen
serving our Senior Center members.
-
We are always opened to new ideas for volunteerism at the
Center.
Please contact Erica Seiler at
erica@cantorcenter.com to discuss
your future as a volunteer at the Daniel D. Cantor Senior Center.

HEALTH TIP OF THE MONTH |

Balance becomes a challenge for many as they grow
older. As a matter of fact, falls are a leading cause of injury and loss
of mobility for older adults. A lot of the falls occur in the home,
during routine activities when people let their guard down. Most falls
are preventable with attention to your surroundings as well as clean,
organized homes. Many people believe that by decreasing their activity
level, they are decreasing their risk of falling but the opposite is
true. In order to reduce the risk of falling, activity levels have to
increase. Improving balance through regular exercise and physical
activity as well as increasing your strength, can be very effective in
preventing falls. The Matter of Balance Program was developed to address
these issues and is being offered here at our center. It’s an 8 week
program that meets once a week for 2 hours. In addition to the class, we
are also offering a Wii Balance
game on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10-2. You can work on your balance
while having fun at the same time! Feel free to call us for more
information on either program.
