HEALTH TIP OF THE MONTH

Balance becomes a challenge for many as they grow older. As a matter of fact, falls are a leading cause of injury and loss of mobility for older adults. A lot of the falls occur in the home, during routine activities when people let their guard down. Most falls are preventable with attention to your surroundings as well as clean, organized homes. Many people believe that by decreasing their activity level, they are decreasing their risk of falling but the opposite is true. In order to reduce the risk of falling, activity levels have to increase. Improving balance through regular exercise and physical activity as well as increasing your strength, can be very effective in preventing falls. The Matter of Balance Program was developed to address these issues and is being offered here at our center. It’s an 8 week program that meets once a week for 2 hours. In addition to the class, we are also offering a Wii Balance
game on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10-2. You can work on your balance while having fun at the same time! Feel free to call us for more information on either program.
